Mature bears can be up to 7 feet from nose to tail with paw to withers length as long as 36 inches.  Females generally weigh up to 250 pounds; males up to 500.  The largest known boar, found in North Carolina, was 880 pounds. Given their size and a potential life expectancy of 30 years food sources are of prime importance to bears.
