Making Science Accessible

Ann's Backyard Forest exists to accelerate biodiversity conservation and climate resilience through applied ecological research, place-based education, visual communication, and the strategic conservation and restoration of small, forested landscapes. We operate along three pillars: Nature Based Research & Innovation, Conservation Lands & Living Laboratories, and Arts, Education & Community Engagement.

We work across sectors with universities, nonprofits, private business, and governmental agencies. Our strengths include research design and oversight, intern mentoring, translation of environmental/science information into visual formats (physical and digital mediums), and engagement programs for K-12 and adult learners. ABF actively and strategically integrates science, education, communication, policy, law, and stewardship to create living laboratories that simultaneously conserve biodiversity, generate scientific knowledge, educate future environmental stewards, demonstrate innovative conservation practices, and strengthen climate resilience.
